Pintura abstracta de tratamiento textural y formas muy simplificadas. José Luis Álvarez Vélez llega a realizar este tipo de obras tras haber atravesado una época expresionista apoyada en el paisaje, de ahí, que la abstracción tenga un fondo paisajístico alavés, rico en grises. El autor ha destacado puntualmente una fuerte coloración de contrastes para romper la serenidad del resto de la obra.
